247Sports: Trench Warriors Show Up to Compete at YAA Birmingham

Yesterday we ran through some of the defensive skill position players who caught the eye at You Are Athlete in Birmingham. What about the big boys who made it to the combine? Yes, offensive and defensive linemen had their turns going 1-vs-1. It is always instructive to watch the prospects who have already earned rankings go against others trying to make a name for themselves. Several earned their shine in the combine.

The big boys came to Birmingham on business yesterday. Several earned their shine in the camp. Here are some guys you need to know:

2028 EDGE Keoni Snipes out of Saraland HS (AL)

Keoni Snipes is a 2028 edge player from Saraland High School in Alabama. He is a 6-foot-6, 260-pounder who has some polish to his game when a lot of guys at his age are still raw. This young man has some real skills, while his height and weight make him stand out already. The best part is at the age of sixteen, there is still some growing for him. Snipes was very violent in 1v1 drills. He is one of those players who understands how to use his body to his advantage. When he extends his arms, it is hard for blockers to get control of him. Snipes holds offers from Florida, Georgia, Auburn, and many more. He is not even ranked yet, but this kid is going to end up being one of the top players in his class.

2028 EDGE Christian Shaw out of Desoto Central HS (MS)

Christian Shaw is another defensive lineman, from DeSoto Central High School here in Mississippi who was very aggressive on Saturday. Shaw was also out there being a coach to other players around him who were not familiar with some of the things he already knows. He is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound 2028 kid who is going to see a stock rise soon. He has a nice release, and he knows how to get violent with his hands. During 1v1s, he often was dominant. Shaw is a very nice young man, but nothing is nice about him on the field. He is going to be one of the most talked about prospects in his class for the state of Mississippi.

2027 OL Courtney Maxwell out of Daphne HS (AL)

Courtney Maxwell is a 6-foot-3, 300-pound offensive lineman who was out there holding his own yesterday. He is a player from Daphne High School in Alabama who knows how to get down and get mean in the trenches. If you are not an aggressive player, Maxwell is not a guy who you want to line up in front of you. His initial punch is one that causes defensive linemen to stop in their tracks. Then, he knows how to keep his feet moving when it is time to drive players out of his way. Maxwell also knows how to hold a solid base when in pass protect. There were not a lot of times when he was taking false steps. Maxwell has some good footwork that allows him to always be in good position.
