On3: YAA New Jersey Prospects

YAA New Jersey hosted its final high school showcase in New Jersey before the All American Showcase in Houston later this month. Here are some of the award winners from the high session

Offense

Rising senior Samuel Furr (6-4, 310) was the 1st offensive lineman you noticed at the YouAreAthlete New Jersey. Although that doesn’t always translate into a top prospect, Furr was the real deal, earning OL MVP. He has offers from Temple and Wofford.

Rising sophomore Kiion Jones (5-11, 170) from Plainfield earned the New Jersey MVP for the receiver group. Jones has a next-level skillset, as evidenced by his offers from Florida International and Wofford. His offers should continue to multiply. He is the son of retired Buffalo Bills receiver Donald Jones.

After watching Piscataway 2027 Landon Pernell (6-0, 160) throw in person and watching his junior film, I can see a fit as a college quarterback. He took home the YouAreAthlete New Jersey QB MVP on his home turf at Piscataway High School. As a junior, Pernell had 1482 passing yards on 113 completions with 15 touchdown passes.

Quarterbacks

The quarterback group was among the strongest groups at the showcase.

Rising junior Gavin Gilardi earned one of the quarterback MVPs. He plays at Delbarton HS in New Jersey, where he was a 2nd team, All-Conference performer. Gilardi passed for 1206 yards with 15 touchdown passes.

Rising sophomore Kobe Towns (6-3, 215) will attend St. John’s in Washington DC. Towns played in Pennsylvania last season for St. Joseph Prep, throwing for over 1000 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Dunbar quarterback Kyrell Lynch (6-3, 170) earned an invite to Houston as one of four upperclassmen to win MVP. He threw for 1,034 yards with 17 touchdown passes. He maintains a 4.2 GPA but no offers at the moment.

Defense

The YouAreAthlete New Jersey Linebacker MVP was Cinque Matthews from Winslow Twp HS. Despite missing four games, Matthews finished the 2025 season with 79 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks.

The top defensive back was Timber Creek High School cornerback Felix Ntawarubara (2027). He was the YouAreAthlete New Jersey DB MVP. Last season, he had 45 tackles, four pass breakups, and one interception. Ntawarubara’s (5-9, 165) size will be an issue

Edge Khalil McKinnon earned YouAreAthlete New Jersey Showcase MVP. He plays for St. FrancesHe has all the measurables but will likely compete for reps at defensive end. Last season, McKinnon had three sacks, 11 tackles, and four tackles for loss.

Jacob Depew (5-11, 175) is a Safety prospect from Pennsbury High School in Pennsylvania. Depew finished the season with 77 tackles, five pass breakups, three tackles for loss, and two picks. He doesn’t have any offers but has been in contact with New Haven.

Linebacker Shyheim Hobbs-Harris (6-1, 205) is a YAA New Jersey award winner from Somerville, New Jersey. He finished his junior season with 54 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and three sacks. Schools showing interest include New Haven, Lafayette, and Monmouth.
