Recap: YAA Maryland Top Performers

The You Are Athlete Regional Exposure Camp Series made a stop in Maryland on April 12th. Some of the top prospects from the northeast were in attendance.

The prospects below earned an invitation to the You Are Athlete All American Showcase this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend in Houston, TX.

Rivals Evaluations (Will Garlick) :

Rob Hughes Jr has been at the last two camps I covered, and he earned Running back awards at both of them. Hughes does well running routes using his vision and cutting ability to highlight his skillset. An All-Region selection at running back, Hughes (5-foot-10, 185) totaled 805 yards on 164 carries with 11 touchdowns.

Jason Galloway (6-foot-0, 205) was one of the linebackers who received an MVP award and invite to Houston. Last season at Kempsville, Galloway recorded 83 tackles with nine tackles for loss and three sacks. He earned Honorable Mention All-Region at linebacker.

Episcopal School junior Noah Baker (6-foot-3, 230) was the only tight end I saw catching passes and I think that hurt him when it came to MVP awards. Still, he ran post routes like the receivers and made plays going head-to-head against the cornerbacks.

The overall top defensive back MVP award went to rising senior Jahlen Batty 2026 who consistently took on the camps best receivers. Batty was 2nd Team All Region for kick and punt returner and All Region Honorable Mention at Defensive Back. He finished his junior year with four interceptions, 14 pass breakups while adding four blocked field goals and four blocked punts.

New Kent lineman Caleb Holmes (6-foot-4, 255) was selected for one of the Offensive Lineman MVP awards. He performed well during the one-on-one drills winning more battles than he lost. He lined up at center and will be an interior lineman in college.

The competition for top quarterback at the camp was a no-brainer as St Frances 2027 Jaylin Solomon (5-foot-11, 180) was selected MVP for the quarterback group. Not only did Solomon do the best during the drill work, but he had the best throws during the competition phrase. He has a smooth, effortless throw and his ball placement was accurate.

The best competition Henry had was against Friendship Collegiate Edge Aleuhnwi "Obama" Bi (6-foot-3, 210) who did win a few reps in the head-to-head matchup. Bi is quick with his move inside and when going around the blocker. He has a slim frame but is fast and athletic. He might need to add size to stop the run.

I was a little surprised when receiver Jaiden Connors (PA) told me he didn't have any D1 offers. He seems polished as a receiver and someone who can help a passing offense. He may have had the catch of the day at the You Are Athlete camp with a one-handed grab for a touchdown. Connors (5-foot-11, 165) has great hands, body control and big play ability after the catch.

The overall Running Back MVP was Alijah Bah (5-foot-8, 170) from Paint Branch High School in Montgomery County, Maryland. Bah says he has an offer from Howard.

Sophomore Tyler Wiggins (5-foot-8, 150) was one of five defensive backs to receive a camp MVP award. The Calvert Hall was very good in the drills and had solid reps throughout the day.

247Sports Evaluations (Rion Young) :

Jaylen Burrell is a 2026 wide receiver from St. Frances Academy (MD) who looks to be about 6-foot-4 tall and weigh around 195 pounds. Clearly he is an impressive wide receiver who has been receiving some attention from power programs. Burrell has a nice release with some good speed. You can also see that he is a physical receiver who does not make it easy for defensive backs to get a good press on him. He has strong hands that stop the football in the air immediately so there is no struggle for him to catch the football. He is definitely a guy to know. He told us today  he has an official visit set up to Virginia Tech.

Ricky Wilson Jr is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound wide receiver from Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington, D.C. He is one of those players who passes the eye test first, then steps up and shows what he can do. Wilson is a 2028 prospect who already holds an offer from Syracuse. Yes, this kid is a real baller. He was another prospect who was out there with really strong hands and is able to run routes. He is not the heaviest kid but he has the build of a running back. Wilson has some speed with a nice release from the line. He can also get up and go and get the football if need be. This young man is going to continue to receive more offers as his career goes on. Be sure to keep up with his name.

Nathaniel Raines is going to be a 2029 wide receiver you are going to want to know. He is a 6-foot-2, 160-pounds and advanced at this young age. Raines attends Cheshire Academy where he knows how to run routes and go and get the football. He catches it cleanly with his hands and does not need to get it into his body first. Everybody at camp was impressed with the way he was gracefully finding ways to get open.  There are going to be a lot of division one offers coming his way in the future.

Shemaj Henry is a 6-foot-8, 330-pound offensive lineman from Chester High School in Pennsylvania. Henry is a 2026 prospect who showed he is able to cover ground in the trenches at an interior position. This young man looked good today. Coaches want to see how well he is going to be able to move on the outside to determine if he is a tackle. Henry holds an offer from Syracuse. We feel like a good strength and conditioning program on the next level is going to help him develop on the next level.
