Rivals: Prospect Watch YAA Baltimore Defense

YAA Baltimore featured great competition, and I highlighted some of the defensive prospects:

Elite Prospects

St. Frances Academy is one of the top football teams in the nation, and You Are Athlete had two Power 4 recruits at the camp. Sophomore Dustin Henry (6-4, 205) and his brother Dekeen Kuyateh (6-2, 210) both displayed their athleticism, and both took home awards.

Both are potential Rivals 4-star prospects.

Henry has offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Florida State, Purdue, Virginia Tech, and Maryland. Hh showed his coverage skills by staying step-for-step with the running backs and deflecting passes.

Kuyateh is a 2029 edge with offers from Georgia, Oregon, Texas A&M, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Maryland. He seemed to elevate the pass-rush effort of every edge at the camp. It was great seeing the skill set and potential of both players.

Linebacker

Winning MVP for best overall linebacker at the YAA Baltimore Showcase was Bishop McNamara rising senior Jadon Byrd (6-0, 225). As a junior, Byrd was credited with 64 tackles, including five tackles for loss. He is hoping to gain more interest and his 1st offer on the camp circuit.

Other linebackers earning invites to the YouAreAthlete national Showcase in Houston were TeJohn Cooper from New Jersey, Zander Westwood from Pennsylvania, and Michael Sarwar from Maryland.

Wyatt Morris (6-2, 225) was another Virginia prospect who made the trip to Baltimore. Morris earned All-District honors at linebacker, though I’m not sure which position will be his best fit in college. His frame suggests defensive end. Morris will hit the Summer camps in hopes of landing a scholarship offer.

Linemen

Matthew Arias (6-2, 250) from Chaminade High School in New York took home MVP for the defensive linemen. I asked Arias why he didn’t wait for the New Jersey YouAreAthlete camp, and he said he wanted to compete against different talent.

L.C Bird 2028 Edge Braeden Harper (6-4, 205) plays in the shadow of Rivals #1 Va prospect Chris Whitehead, but he holds an offer from Temple. Harper earned an invite to the @YouAreAthlete National Showcase.

The Edge competition was fierce and was probably the best position group at the showcase. Freshman Ethen Hall (6-2, 220) just missed the cut for an invite to Houston. Hall was a 2nd team All-Region selection at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach.

Concordia Prep defensive tackle Tyler Hamilton (5-11, 250) was surprisingly strong to go with his quick speed rushes. He finished his sophomore season with eight tackles for loss and 34 tackles. He will need to continue to add size before his senior year.

Sayvion Sorkine (6-1, 250) is a freshman at DeMatha Catholic, and he earned an invite to Houston for his ability to rush the quarterback in one-on-one drills.

Defensive Back

Bishop McNamara 2028 Darvin Cook received the overall DB MVP at the YouAreAthlete Baltimore Showcase. He was all over the field and likely sealed his MVP with an interception during the 7-on-7 matchups. Cook was also a vocal leader and did very well during the early drills. He was one of the top prospects I watched all day.

Rising senior William McBeth (5-11, 185)is a Safety prospect who plays at Paul Laurence Dunbar. Last year as a starter, McBeth had around 30 tackles, five pass breakups, and two picks. He has no offers but has interest from Towson, Kutztown, and Wingate.

Daquall “DJ” Graham from St John’s Prep in Massachusetts says he just moved to defensive back last season. Still, he earned an invite to Houston with one of the MVP awards for the defensive backs. Graham (6-2, 190) is a tall safety prospect, and he used his long wingspan to deflect several passes during the 1-on-1’s. He runs the 100m on the track and has the frame to add more weight and get stronger.
